Warrior Nun is an American fantasy drama television series, based on the eponymous comic series named Warrior Nun Areala by Ben Dunn. It chronicles the story of 19-year-old Ava Silva, who wakes up in a morgue with a divine artifact embedded in her back. Now part of an ancient order, she uses her new lease on life to fight demons on Earth while attempting to stay out of the clutches of powerful forces representing both heaven and hell who want to find and control her.
Created by Simon Barry, the show has Simon Barry, Jet Wilkinson, Dean English and Stephen Hegyes as executive producers and stars Alba Baptista as the Warrior Nun, helped by her sister nuns Kristina Tonteri-Young, Lorena Andrea, Toya Turner, and Olivia Delcán.
Warrior Nun premiered on Netflix on July 2, 2020. On August 19, 2020, the series was renewed for a second season. The second season premiered November 10, 2022. On December 13, 2022, it was announced that the series had been canceled by Netflix after two seasons.
On June 28, 2023, it was announced by showrunner Simon Barry that the series had been saved following a massive fan campaign. No exact details were immediately available, though Barry stated that more details would be coming soon and would be "more EPIC than you could imagine." On August 15, it was stated by executive producer Dean English that the property would return as a trio of feature films. No other details were immediately forthcoming.
